About the 2008 Cover

To create the 2008 cover, we photographed 120 parishoners and then scaled and rotated the images so that their eyes were all aligned. Astronomical image-processing software was used to merge the images into male and female composites, so that the result is a true 'average' of the 70 women and 50 men who volunteered to become 'the face of the Catholic Church'.
